Skog

Nordic garden atelier sculpting landscapes from granite, birch, and silence.

Origin

A life spent
reading land.

Every garden Skog makes is shaped by this chronology — the failures as much as the commissions, the silence as much as the craft.

Norwegian fjord with steep granite cliffs reflecting in still dark water, aerial view
Chapter I1983

A fjord childhood

Born in Ålesund, where the sea pushes granite cliffs and the light is never quite honest. My father kept a kitchen garden. My grandfather kept silence. I learned to read both.

Chapter II2003

The apprenticeship

Three years under Morten Kjeldsen, then royal garden master at Fredensborg Palace. He never praised a design. He only asked: "Does this stone belong here, or does it merely sit here?" I still hear it on every site visit.

Raw excavated terrain with exposed granite and clay soil, a failed garden site before redesign
Chapter III2008

The commission that failed

A lakehouse terrace in Värmdö. I over-designed it — too many planes, too much intention. The client was kind. The land was not. I dismantled the whole scheme in November and started from the soil.

Chapter IV2009

soil samples taken before the second attempt. The land speaks in pH and drainage, not in mood boards.

Chapter V2011

The philosophy emerges

A garden is not placed on land. It is drawn out of it. Every path already exists — you are only removing what obscures it.

Chapter VI2014

First archipelago commission

"Lena arrived with drone footage and soil data. She spent the first day walking without speaking. The garden she made three months later felt like it had always been there." — Anders Lindqvist, Sandhamn

earn their silence.

Voices from the Field

What the land
gave back.

Anders Lindqvist, architect from Sandhamn, client of Skog garden atelier

"Lena arrived with drone footage and soil data. She spent the first day walking without speaking. The garden she designed three months later felt like it had always been there — as if we had simply uncovered it."

Anders Lindqvist

Architect · Sandhamn, Sweden

Sandhamn Coastal Terrace
Kaisa Mäkinen, Helsinki property developer, Skog garden client

"We had architects tell us our courtyard was too small for meaningful planting. Skog turned it into the reason people pay the price per square meter we asked for."

Kaisa Mäkinen

Property Developer · Helsinki, Finland

Töölö Villa Garden
Henrik Brandt, writer from Djursholm, Skog Seasonal Stewardship client

"The Seasonal Stewardship retainer changed how we experience our own property. Each quarter the garden surprises us. That was not possible before — we were just maintaining, not listening."
